University of Texas Running Backs in the NFL

Here is an article about how the Bears are giving Cedric Benson an opportunity to be the starter in Chicago this year. With all Benson's hype coming out of college, Thomas Jones was clearly the better back last year, then Benson went down with the injured knee. Benson has a lot to prove this year to validate him being the #4 draft pick overall in 2005. So it got me thinking, maybe Cedric will take a little while to get things going in the NFL. Priest Holmes, another Texas running back, did. Although Priest had 1008 yds his second year with Baltimore, it wasn't really until his fifth year in the league with the Chiefs that he exploded with 1555 yds and then in 2003 he had the 27 TD's that boosted him to elite status among NFL backs. So for the Priest, he took a while to get his career going. Then there is Ricky Williams. Williams was all world coming out of Texas, but his first three years in the league he was labeled a bust with the Saints. In 2002 Williams went to Miami where he exploded for 1853 yds and led the league in rushing. Williams was finally living up to his Texas hype right? Sadly just two years later Williams was out of the league. He made a brief comeback last year but it now appears Williams will never play in the NFL again. So that leaves the question - is there any Texas running back who can really fulfill their own college hype? I submit to you the greatest running back in Longhorn history. Ricky and Cedric may have the records at Texas but I will take this guy any day. And as this announcer attests to, this back led the league in yards his first three years in the league, no adjustment period, no slow start for him. Here, enjoy this king.

Earl Campbell has the bar set pretty high for Texas running backs in the NFL. Heck, he has the bar set high for running backs period. So what do you think about Cedric? When will he explode onto the scene or will he at all? How good do you think he will be? Give your two sense and make sure and give your reasons why or why not.

People always think of Campbell as just a fat back who could only truck people but he clearly had the speed and the cutbacks to get the yards too. But if you got in his way, then you were gonna pay. Big ups to da Tyler Rose!!

Earl Cambell is great and so is the sausage. I think he will blow up next year, so what is that 2 years? He will be great this year and start, but I think once Jones' hammy heals they will start him and Benson will then be back up. I do think though if Jones gets hurt again this season, they will continue to play Benson over Peterson. Let's hope for an injury free season for these guys since i am their number one fan, or NFL shop certainly thinks so ever since I ordered that sweetness jersey.

I never said he was going to be better than Earl Cambell, I was just answering when I thought he would blow up. And they're not in the same sentence, there is clearly a period. I think you mean paragraph.

(clearing throught) AHEM! This is Silva Sportz not Silva Do you like Casper? So bringing it back to the topic, I remember seeing Benson cry at the draft because he said that he just wanted a chance to prove himself. well here is his chance to show it, so he better bust his butt. He is used to always being the man and now he is realizing nothing is a gift. I think the competition will be good for him and he will be the Bears starter and a quality back.
